Guinea Pigs make great pets for people of all ages. They can be like bars of soap when they are very young, but with regular handling they tame down beautifully.
They should always be kept in pairs or groups, if you lose one a baby can be added in to keep the older one company.
Groups of boys or girls can be kept together in a suitable sized enclosure. These are great lawn mowers, so invest in a run!
They can be kept as either indoor or outside pets.
They live on average for six years but one of our customers has had two that have lived in excess of eleven years.
We rear our Guinea Pigs on Supreme Gerty Guinea Pig mix. They get through loads of hay daily and must have a large water bottle. They love tunnels and hides to dive through. Always feed Guinea Pigs on a proper Guinea Pig food, they are unable to produce their own vitamin C and therefore it must be offered in their diet.
Guinea Pigs are unable to sweat, ensure that their hutch and run are located in the shade or you will lose them.
